It's a battle of the 7-7 teams on Thursday Night Football as the Los Angeles Rams take on the New Orleans Saints at SoFi Stadium.

The Saints have won two straight and share the same record as NFC South rivals Tampa Bay in the race for the division title.

After Thursday the Saints don't play again until New Year's Eve when they face the Buccaneers in a highly consequential clash.

That means Saints star Alvin Kamara will get to put his feet up over the festive period - which is probably a good thing for the rest of the NFL after he torched the Vikings back on Christmas Day in 2020.

The relentless running back scored six touchdowns in a 52-33 rout to equal the NFL record for rushing touchdowns in a game - set by Ernie Nevers of the Chicago Cardinals in 1929.

No other non-quarterback since before the NFL-AFL merger had ever scored six touchdowns of any kind in an NFL game.

To this day only three players have done it since Nevers - Kamara, Dub Jones for the Cleveland Browns in 1951 and Gale Sayers for the Chicago Bears in 1965.

Kamara wore different coloured shoes - one red and one green - for the Christmas Day demolition of the Vikings, and finished with 22 carries for a career-high 155 rushing yards.

"Crazy,” said Kamara after his historic outing.

"Man, it just feels good to have one of those days, just for the team, just for offensive morale.

"So, like I said, I always say this, I’m not focused on personal goals and yards and stuff like that. As long as the team’s having success, then personal success will come."

52 points was the most the Vikings had allowed in a game since 1963 and meant they were eliminated from playoff contention with a 6-9 record.

The Saints, meanwhile, moved to 11-4 with the victory and wrapped up their fourth straight NFC South title.

However, they were defeated in the divisional round by rivals and eventual Super Bowl champions Tampa Bay, 30–20, despite having swept them in the regular season.

This year's New Year's Eve game will be a repeat of that fixture as the Saints remain in the hunt for the division crown.

They can still win the NFC South this year despite the Bucs currently holding the head-to-head tiebreaker but a Week 17 win in Tampa Bay is crucial if they're to do it.

Another virtuoso performance from Kamara certainly would't go amiss, particularly if you're a Saints fan.
