Hope Odidika Uzodimma (born December 12, 1958) is a Nigerian politician currently holding the position of governor in Imo State since 2020.
Hope Uzodinma represents the All Progressives Congress (APC) party. Uzodimma‘s victory in the 2019 Imo State gubernatorial election was confirmed by the Supreme Court of Nigeria on January 14, 2020. This ruling overturned the previous win of the incumbent governor, Emeka Ihedioha.

Early Life & Education
Hope Uzodinma, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, was born on December 12, 1958, in Omuma, Imo State, into an Igbo family. His father, Chief Michael Uzodimma, held the title of Igwe of Ozuh Omuma, while his mother was Ezinne Rose Uzodimma.
He is connected to the Okoro family of Etiti-Omuma and has a brother named Uche Uzodinma, who is also active in politics. Uzodimma‘s educational journey began at Mgbidi Secondary School in Omumu, Oru West, Imo State, Nigeria. He pursued higher education, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in international studies in 1982 after completing an advanced diploma in transportation studies.
Additionally, Hope Uzodinma earned a master’s degree in human relations from the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) and a degree in political science from the University of London.
Career
Hope Uzodinma‘s political journey traces back to the Second Nigerian Republic. In 1983, he assumed the role of Imo State Youth Leader within the National Party of Nigeria (NPN), the ruling party at the time. Transitioning to the Third Nigerian Republic in the 1990s, Uzodinma emerged as a key figure in the United Nigeria Congress Party.
His political trajectory was further elevated when he took office as a Federal Republic of Nigeria Senator on June 6, 2011, representing the Imo West Senatorial District in Imo State. Hope Uzodinma secured re-election for a second term in 2015. In a notable move in 2018, he shifted allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in pursuit of the gubernatorial seat in Imo State’s 2019 election.
On January 15, 2020, alongside Placid Njoku, he was sworn in as Governor of Imo State and his deputy, respectively. In his inaugural address, Hope Uzodinma called for a comprehensive financial status report spanning May 2010 to January 2020 from the state’s accountant general. Additionally, he mandated all permanent secretaries of state ministries to provide updates on awarded contracts while suspending payments for ongoing projects.
